Justin Johnson "The Breaks: 1997 - 2001"

147x64

In 1997 Justin Johnson released his first track on Don’t Panic Records (owned by Gruv 42) called “Lazer Blast”. It’s success was fueled by Justin’s innate ability to fuse Funky Breaks with Progressive House elements and create a dance floor anthem (coupled with Gruv 42’s production skills). Indeed, the track was licensed to DJ Liquid’s mix CD “Electroacidfunk2”. The following year, Justin teamed up with Satellite Records coworker John Selway to create “Supernatural”. This track took Justin ‘s love for the TB-303, the Electro Synth Pop styles of Alexander Robotnick, and edited classic Hip Hop beats, and created another monster that saw spins worldwide. Then in 1999, he released “Cranberry Breaks” (also on Don’t Panic), and from the success of that he joined forces with his dad to create the Barely Legal Records label. After two smash hit releases from Scotty Marz, Barely Legal’s third vinyl release never made it to the record shops, despite receiving a 5/5 review in Mixer Mag.

Voodeux - The Paranormal - Mothership Music

Two years ago, on the East Coast of America, a couple of highly technical production wizards joined forces and created their own genre of strange and creepy techno under the moniker, Voodeux. One from Boston and the other from Philadelphia, Tanner Ross and James Watts first released “The Curse” EP on mothership in 2008 with great success. With DJ support rolling in from everywhere Claude VonStroke soon commissioned them to record a full-length album of this new moody sound.

Voodeux’s debut album, “The Paranormal” is a concentrated vision of myth and mysterious beats, exploring the eerie after-life side of techno like no other artists have done to date. It is a 10 track vision of ghosts and goblins hiding in the closet ready to scare the daylights out of you. Using dark funk, ghoulish atmospheres and futuristic production, Voodeux is staking their claim as the next generation of American techno and “The Paranormal” is a techno masterwork for the modern underworld.

Starfucker - Jupiter

Starfucker ended 2008 with a bang! Their debut album had been featured on iTunes Indie Spotlight and MySpace; their video premiered on Pitchfork, and they had one of the all-time most dowloaded songs ("German Love") on eMusic's Daily Download. On Valentine's Day they played to their largest sold-out (900 folks) crowd in their hometown of Portland, Oregon. And less than nine months after delivering their debut, they are back with an eight song album. In this rough economic spell, it is revitalizing to see a band who's stock is on the rise.

Abigail Washburn and Shanghai Restoration Project - Afterquake

In honor of the one-year anniversary of the Sichuan Earthquakes, two pioneers in entirely different genres – folk and electronica – have merged to increase knowledge and
understanding of the continuing aftermath of the earthquake.

More than 88,000 have died, with upwards of 5 million left homeless or relocated. A portion of the proceeds from this EP will benefit the Sichuan Quake Relief organization.

Afterquake is a collection of raw, remixed field recordings of post-earthquake soundscapes as well as performances by relocated children and their faraway parents captured and
produced by Abigail Washburn and Shanghai Restoration Project creator Dave Liang, in cooperation with Sichuan Quake Relief.
